ACT! by Sage 2008 (10.0) Version 10.0.1.199
For some reason Act! likes to hang at times when I am doing something with the Opportunity Manager.
Is there anyway to reduce the memory footprint this application requires?
Is there anyway to increase the performance of Act! 2008?
Is there any way to setup the SQL in a non-peer to peer setup and more of a client server? It seems every instance of Act! 2008 has SQL running as a server.
Also one of the most annoying things is the phone number formater. If I click on it and change the format, it will truncate the number. If I copy and paste it into the formater it's fine. If I click on the format the number is already in, then click on the format I want it's fine.

You main problem sounds like it may be related to system resources. The version your are using, 10.0.1.199, exposed a leak in the Microsoft .NET framework that can deplete system resources. Update to 10.0.3 where they made changes to minimize to effect of the .NET framework leak. (The changes were also in 10.0.2.)
When I hit Update it says I have the latest version. Why wouldn't they make this kind of fix available that way?

The toaster pop-up (Help | ACT! Update) hasn't been enabled on our end for ACT! 2008.
You can obtain the 10.0.3 update by following the link below.

What are the machine specs? Memory, HDD Speed, CPU etc.
Supermicro Workstation (Chassis & Mobo)
2.3GHz Core 2 Duo
2x 750GB SATA-2 HDD I believe 7200 RPM (RAID 1)
I applied the patch, it's still acting strange and using a good deal of memory (not as much as it did). I have to wait at least 1-3 seconds every time I do something (pull up calendar, pull up contact). I am used to GoldMine which seems near instantaneous.

Specs sound fine but, and my experience in ACT is minimal, it would be good to confirm the HDD speed.
Until someone with more experience than me comes along, have you tried backing up your DB, uninstalling and reinstalling? With the specs you have you should be running reasonably quickly.
I understand what you're saying about GM it has other issues that made me want to move to something else.

I've had similar problems so I'm going to update from 10.0.1, my question is do I have to install .2 and the hotfix before .3 or is .3 cumulative?
FYI, I prefer GM if they hadn't dropped the single user support. Thanks.
