I am reaching out to the Act! community for help with this stubborn and frustrating problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Product: Act! 2008 Standard Edition
Build Version: 10.3.182.0
When loading a database in Act! the menu and toolbars disappear to a blackish/gray screen. Once the system appears to have fully loaded the database (the splash screen disappears) nothing is displayed. By chance, I clicked the "Alt+F" " shortcut and found that i can access the menu items (see first image). However, when I attempt to access various areas of the application, the program either does nothing or crashes (exception errors).
Uninstall and Reinstall of Act! software.
Removal of all Preferences from %APPDATA%\ACT\ACT for Windows 10 directory
Completed ACTDIAG and ran all fixes on database
Updated Act! using the Act! Update program
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Was anything recently installed/updated on the computer within the time frame the issue started happening? Try running ACT! as an administrator or disabling UAC.
Run as administrator:
Right click the ACT! icon and select Run as Administrator.

Thanks for the advice, but I did run Act! as Administrator due to the auto-update not working unless you did so. Nothing changed when ran as administrator. I am not aware of any other software being installed at or near the time Act! began to act up.
It's a really strange problem.
Any other suggestions?

1) Exit ACT!
2) Launch the command window on your Vista machine using the right mouse button "Run as Administrator".
3) Navigate to the location of the ACT! Product install (\Program Files\ACT\Act for Windows)
4) Run the executable "MachineConfigUpdater.exe"
Try your scenario again posting your results.
