Act! 2007 will not open, help!

[ Edited ]

I have just installed Act! 2007 9.01 and cannot open it. I get an error message (attempting to deserialize an empty stream). I have uninstalled act, .net service pact 1 and run cleanup_tool.exe. Does anybody know what is going on?

Windows xp pro

2 gig ram

Re: Act! 2007 will not open, help!

I'm a novice at ACT, but it sounds like you can't access the ACT database over the network, something is wrong with your network setup or configuration. Can you browse on the internet? Can you see (using Windows Explorer) the machine on which the ACT database is located? See if you can look at the database files on the network using Windows Explorer. Or perhaps the machine on which the ACT database is located has crashed or is hung.

The error message you got (attempting to deserialize...) implies to me that ACT timed out waiting for the stream of data to be returned from the database.
