Act 2007 setup requires you to restart your machine

Hi guys

Have started the initial install - program keeps closing down with the following message - Act! setup requires you to restart your machine.  The system then starts to reboot and it starts all over again.  Have done this several times and same thing happens repeatedly.

Laptop is running on xp - and specs meet software requirements.  Have shut down McFee during installation and closed down other programs and still the same problem

Any solutions

regards

Hi Mike

Have up dated my system to xp service patch 3 and this seems to have done the trick as I was able to install act.  Many thanks for your kind help

Paul

I would assume that you have something loading at start up that the ACT! installer wants closed. Because it loads at startup, you are stuck in a loop. Very difficult to say what the conflict might be.

Re: Act 2007 setup requires you to restart your machine

Hi,

Run the ACT System Checker.

It will be on the CD in the Dependancies folder.  - ACTSystemCheck.exe

Once the System checker has completed, click on View Log, that should give you some idea of what's going on.

I believe a reboot loop is caused by an issue with the MDAC on the machine.

Re: Act 2007 setup requires you to restart your machine

Many thanks AJones.  You were right act requires Mdac 2.8 SP1.  When I checked my system I have Mdac 2.8SP1 on Windows XP SP2.

The problem now is that when I try to download it from Microsoft is says " the set up doesn't support installing on this operating system"

Can you offer any solutions

cheers

Re: Act 2007 setup requires you to restart your machine

You're welcome.

You can attempt to install the MDAC file we have on the cd, see if that will resolve your issue.

You'll find this file also in the Dependencies folder on the CD, MDAC_TYP.EXE
