I am using Sage Act 2006 with 2 users, two laptops networked via BT Home Hub, and a network drive. I want to have the database stored on one of the laptops, with the other laptop being able to access it. However, I keep getting the following error:
"The Database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable any firewall software on your computer or the server."
This sounds like a network or firewall issue. However the network is working fine, and each laptop can access the folder in which the database is saved. For example, if I put a word doc in the folder, both laptops can open it, which says to me that the database and firewall are fine.
In addition, I would like the attachments (word docs etc) that I add to the contacts to be held on the network drive, as the laptop upon which the database is stored does not have sufficient hard drive capacity to hold the documents. Whilst I seem to be able to change the location under "Preferences" in Act, all it does is copy to the folder that the database is held in on the laptop.
I have been going round in circles with this and am totally stuck. I really would be very grateful indeed for any help or advice that you can offer.
Many thanks in advance...

Try this ACT! Knowledge Base article - http://tinyurl.com/4enba2
You might also consider sync'ing the database so that the two laptops can operate when not connected as per this article - http://tinyurl.com/3kf9zv
