I am working on troubleshooting my mother's setup as above. For some reason whenever she tries to exit the app either by clicking the X in the corner or by going to file - exit the process moves from Apps to Background Processes in the task manager. If she goes to try and start the program again nothing will happen, I assume becasue the exe is already running. For now I have a batch file to force kill the process so she can reopen it without having to deal with the task manager or restarting her computer. However this is not ideal whatsoever. We purchased this as an upgrade to Act! 2009 when we upgraded her computer to a windows 8 machine and I assume without some sort of plan we do not get any email support so hopefully this is the best place for this.
Is there a fix for this? I have updated Act to the newest version as well as all of the current updates to Windows 8.1.

If she's using Teamviewer that could be the issue. If she is you probably need to disable the quick connect button.
