Act 11 Won't Open Saved Databases on New PC

Hi,
I'm a single user on a brand new laptop. ACT won't open my saved database.

When I try and import into a newly created database, I get this message:

ACT is unable to connect to the specified databse. The database may need to be verified and  upgraded...

I follow the instructions, but still get error messages.

When I try and open the database as a brand new database (rather than importing into a new/shell database), I get this error message:

"Could not find a database called "MYSAVEDDATABASE" on host DESKTOP-CSJKV2P.

Anyone know how to fix this? THANKS A MILLION in advance.

Re: Act 11 Won't Open Saved Databases on New PC

Hello,

I suggest upgrading your current Act! version to the new V21 PRO - CLICK HERE - Check in this matrix carefully the compatibility with the Windows versions, Microsoft Office and Database (SQL Server)

Anyway, I think that if in the previous computer you made the backup (File menu - Backup - Database - Include the attachments - and click Browse to place the backup in your documents folder) Then pass the ZIP file of that Backup to the documents folder of the new computer and restore it with the File menu  - Restore - Database - RESTORE AS ... and follow the steps (I suggest to restore in c: \ Users \ Public \ Documents \ ACT \ ACT Data \ Databases \ to avoid Windows security issues) ... this way there should be no problems to open the database on the new PC

I suggest to permanently deactivate the UAC - User account control - on YouTube there are videos of how to do it

Also keep in mind the exclusions that you must make in the Antivirus and Firewall (if you use them) CLICK HERE

Best regards and good luck...

If you can create a new database, it is because the ACT7 service is working

Re: Act 11 Won't Open Saved Databases on New PC

A little confused as what it is your doing. (My problem not yours.)

Some pointers that might help.

To import data from one database to another they must be the same version, open both databases first to check.

If you have copied a database from one machine to another (by copying all the files etc.) delete the .pad file and open using the .adf option. This will create a new .pad file with the correct info for database location.

If you have made a backup and copied to a new machine use the Restore As option and give the database a new name.
