Accessing/Manipulating Act! Sql Server Data

Act! Version 9.0 on Windows Server 2003

Does anyone know how to access Act! data through the SQL Server Management Studio?  I understand that it can be done through an OLEDB connection that I would create in a separate application.  It would be easier for me to do it by running SQL scripts in the Management Studio (Version 2005).  I can restore a backed-up Act! database to the databases collection of SQL Server.  But after I am finished with it, having exited from the UI (and data file), if I try to connect Act! to the .ADF, I get an error, "CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 32 (The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process)..."  Running Microsoft's Process Explorer assures me that no such process is running.

I realize that it is potentially dangerous to bypass Act!'s data integrity checks, but I need to update a number of records in a straightforward foreign key relationship.  Except for the above error, I've had no problems.

Thanks for any insights you may have.

Thank you, Mike.  I'll go down that path, then.
