Our ACT database stopped working today, and it seemed that ACT7 SQL had disappeared, so we tried reinstalling ACT
ACT now won't install as it says the following:
"ACT! has detected an ACT7 instance that could not be connected successfully. Either you have entered incorrect password or SQL service may not be running. The installation cannot continue at this time. Please run the installer again and provide a valid password or make sure that SQL (ACT7) instance is running and then continue installation."
Can you please help URGENTLY as this is what we use for all our calling, telesales, telemarketing etc

When you checked for the SQL ACT7 instance - where did you check? The first place to look is the Windows Services screen, look for 'SQL Server (ACT7)'. If it is listed, ensure the the status is 'Started' (right click > Start or Restart).
If it is/was not listed, the next step would be to uninstall SQL (unless other applications are using it) through Control Panel.
If you have been through these steps and still get the existing instance message, there are pieces that remain. Here are instructions for manually removing the ACT7 instance:
SQL 2005: KB Article 23401
SQL 2008 R2: KB Article 26993

Greg - even more HELP now!
I deleted all the files as shown on the manually removing ACT7 instance instructions
Then when I came to reinstall ACT! it gets as far as installing the last thing on the SQL Server and it comes up with this error:
''TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ------------------------------ The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
This is the same disc that we have used many times to install on other PC's
Can you please HELP!
