ACT2007 error hooking up to Outlook Express for sending email

I installed ACT2007 on XP-Home and hooked it up to OutlookExpress 6.

I seem to be able to send email now, but for every email, I get a warning

from OE saying somebody was trying to send email on my behalf, do I

want to allow it. Is there some way to get rid of this warning?

But the biggie is that I seem to now get an error when I start up

ACT-email. I get a dialog box that says:

Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill the messaging requst. Please run Microsoft Outlok and set it as
the default mail client.

But when I run OE, it says that it *is* the default email application.

And in the start menu, OE is listed as the Email application.

How  do I get rid of this error? It does seem to be able to successfully

send email.

TIA!

The first error is this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262997

The freebie fixes it for Outlook, not sure if it works for Outlook Express - http://www.contextmagic.com/express-clickyes/

For the 2nd error, try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813745

If you have Outlook installed also, why not use that instead of OE? It much better and ACT! is better with it

Re: ACT2007 error hooking up to Outlook Express for sending email

Thanks, but both articles seem to refer to Outlook, not Outlook Express,

do the instructions still apply? I don't want to break anything if I try

instructions for the wrong program.

I try to avoid user-mode M$ applications as much as possible so I don't

have Outlook. I wouldn't even be running OE if the ACT

email client were tweaked to allow non-standard outgoing ports because

lots of ISPs don't support port 25 anymore for sending email. So I'm stuck

without being able to send email because ACT won't put out a patch to

fix their program to allow non-standard ports. Seems like a trivial fix to me.

They even have authentication capability, just not to non-standard ports.

Not sure if ClickYes works with OE... it shouldn't break anything if it doesn't. I haven't seen anything to do this specifically for OE. Try it and let us know

The other solutions on the 'net for the 2nd error when not using Outlook are related to your Anti Virus. Have a look at http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

25 is still the standard for smtp... there is a few ISPs starting to use other ports as a means of stopping open relay servers that generate spam. The standard of this is due to be approved soon. You should make a request for this on the Feedback page. As most users link ACT! to Outlook, it would be good to have some requests logged for port changes in the system so they know it's of interest.

You might post a request for this feature to be considered for a future version here - http://www.act.com/community/feature
Input from this web page goes directly into a database that management has direct access to read, and which they also track and gather statistics on.

I agree it might not be a major effort... but it comes down to limited resources and spending them where the majority of users are

Re: ClickYes

I looked it up, and this sentence in their description "You will hardly ever remember of ClickYes once..." sounds ominous. :-)

The bad news - the 'find out more' page says: "Express ClickYes doesn't work with Outlook Express. "

The good news - right below there, they say...

Go to Tools | Options | Security and there's a checkbox for "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me." All you have to do is uncheck that box and that fixes the warning.

Re: the error message

Looks like the error message just looks stupid, it doesn't seem to keep anything from happening.

Doesn't seem like it'd be anti-virus-related, but I suppose it could be. I'm running AVG on that

system. I'm just going to leave the error there and chaulk it up to OE being brain-damaged.
That's why I resisted running it in the first place.

I asked the forum awhile back (and I think you may have answered it) about ACT/email and Vista and unusual ports being broken, and at the time I put in a feedback request about it. Since then I went to an XP system expecting smooth sailing. Silly me. :-( I've now also put a request in the 'community/feature' page.

The ClickYes description is because you just forget it. It just Click's yes when Outlook asks if it should allow. Man, many users ran it after MS added the (lergely useles) security addtion to Outlook after one of the big virus outbreaks.

Been to long since I played with OE... I'd forgotten that setting.

Vista is fine if running ACT! 10 and you have plenty of RAM (about 512MB more than you'd run with XP) and a decent video board and you turn off UAC. Otherwise, XP is the better choice

Hello,

That first error can be resolved by using the following knowledge base article

How to Disarm Security Warning when using Outlook Express 6.0 as your E-mail Client in ACT!

Yes, thank you, that did resolve the first problem.
