We have a customer that is having a recurring issue where ACT firstly looses its registration details and secondly its preferences. It appeared to only be 1 pc out of 7 running the product but we have recently had the registration issue on a new laptop supplied.
With regard to the preferences, we literally go in to ACT and reset them up, this works and remains all ok for days, weeks, sometimes months. This in only happening on 1 pc, the same pc that the registration drops on.
With regard to the registration, we have worked through the Sage document (ID: 14245) and have always found the issue / fix to be a damaged Windows System file, stopping the service and renaming the file works. Again this can happen weekly, monthly, we have gone a number of months without it happening but in the last 2 months it has happened 3 times on the one pc and twice on the new laptop.
The actual version is Sage ACT! Pro 2011 Version 13.0.401.0 Hot Fix 2.
Both pc's are running Windows 7 sp1, Office 2010, they have local admin rights to the pc. The 1st pc uses a database that only that user uses, not accessed by anyone else albeit is setup on the server and accessed from there to be backed up over night. The laptop is using the main database that 6 other users use on a daily basis.
Any assistance or advice on the above issue would be gratefully received.

The user that is experiencing this issue, are they using a laptop that uses a docking station? I've seen registration issues happen because of docking stations.
What sort of antivirus/firewall software are you using on the computer experiencing the issue?

The laptop is using a sort of dock, the laptop doesn't sit in it but has a cable from it to box that then has the screen, wireless keyboard and mouse dongle. The last time it happened the user was out of the office, not connected to network, dock etc.
They run GFI Vipre anti virus and firewall is done via a Watchguard attached to the server.
We have 1 pc and 1 laptop with the issue, 6 other users onsite have never had the problem, some of them are laptops with docks, albeit different brands.
