ACT Database melted down, don't have .pad only .mdf, how to export data?

Hello,

One of our clients ACT database melted down and they did NOT have ANY backup.......

We were able to the data so we can view it  it MSSQL server and run the select statements, so the data is there but it does not work with ACT anymore. We can see all the tables/field values, but the issue here is now how do we get the data out of that MSSQL database? Where do I find/get relations between the activities? Is there a couple queries that I could run and it would return a list of activities so I don't have to go over all the database and figure that myself out?

Note, we are moving out of ACT so need to get the data out of ACT to .csv~ so we can import it to other CRM.

Any help appreaciated.

Thanks

Re: ACT Database melted down, don't have .pad only .mdf, how to export data?

You mention that you have the 'MDF' file - generally the only database file used by Act! with an MDF extension is the Email database.  The main database would have an 'ADF' file which contains the fields and data.

If you have the ADF and LDF files for the database, you can attempt to open it through Act! using the ADF instead of a PAD file.

If the database file is attached to SQL, you can try using an OLE/DB2 connection to pull data out:  Here is an article with some samples instructions for creating a query: KB Article 25837

[ Edited ]

Thanks! that was what I was looking for.

Couple questions what is stored in the following tables:

TBL.ACCESSOR_Activity_suspect - has 33k records
TBL.Activity - whats that?
TBL.Activity_suspect - 12k records, is that a incomplete activities?
TBL.contact_ACL - what's that?
TBL.contact_history_suspect - what's that?
TBL.Group_suspect - whats that?
TBL.Group_partial - what's that?

TBL.History_Partial -whats that

TBL.History_suspect - ?

TBL.Note_partial?

Thanks for your help!

Here is an article that may help with the contents of the tables: KB Article 22924

Re: ACT Database melted down, don't have .pad only .mdf, how to export data?

Thanks, but it appears that
TBL.ACCESSOR_Activity_suspect -
TBL.Activity_suspect -
TBL.contact_history_suspect -
TBL.Group_suspect -
TBL.Group_partial
TBL.History_Partial
TBL.History_suspect
TBL.Note_partial?

is not documented at all? how could it be?

The last qualifier of the tables listed are actually status indicators.  For example: TBL.Activity is the table and Suspect is the status.

I cannot help with the situation, but wanted to say thanks for posting.  It made me realize we were not backing up our database regularly.  Now I have scheduled regular backups.  So hopefully we will be better prepared for any problems.
