Ok
So I have now edited registry to complete manual delete of ACT and SQL
Reloaded act now actidiag can see a database
I go to reset password but the box is greyed out
I click ok and go back to open a database but does not work
It is on Port 52251 is that right?
All pipes are open and alias data correct

OK
All reloaded again
ACT starts to load
then all that is seen is handshake logo
ACTDIAG now connects and log error shows
Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
I have not changed the database password so what does this mean?
Does it refer to the ACT7 instance password?

This is an issue with SQL SA password. Go to this KB article an download the batch file from the File Attachments section:
http://kb.Sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/Sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2887...
- Download the batch file
- Close ACT!
- Run the file file by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Run As Administrator'
- When prompted to turn off password policy, answer 'y' (may get prompted twice)
- When complete, open ACT! to test

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Thank you for your reply
Yes Sage.exec is running
Indeed to try and run again the database I need to stop the process and start again or selecting databse files direct does nothing and I need to close the .exe
Before running the .bat file I did see act starting and then the bar come across as it is loading database contacts
now all that happens is the sage logo minimises and if I tap tab to see what screens are open I see the ACT handshake symbol minimised and nothing else

I experienced similar issues last month. After thoroughly removing/cleaning all instances of ACT and SQL Server in all file structures and Registry, it loaded up as a fress install and I was able to open my DataBase.... PHEW.
