ACT! 2010 memory hog on VMware Fusion - ongoing problem

[ Edited ]

Problem:

Running ACT! 2010 slows down my (virtual machine) VM and the host MAC, when running. If I turn down the memory of the VM, ACT slows down, if I turn up the memory on the VM, ACT speeds up, but MS Office and other apps crawl on the VM.

As you can see my ACT dB is quite small. Often times, I have to shut down my VM, restart the Mac and relaunch ACT!

After a few hours, ACT! often times becomes non-responsive after idling, and I have to restart both machines.

Suggestions or workarounds most appreciated. Tech specs as follows:

iMac

OS X 10.6.8

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4GB

VMware Fusion

Windows 7

1 Processor Core (adjustable to 2)

VM Memory 1824 MB (adjustable up or down)

ACT! 2010

1444 records

Try creating a large page file on the VM.
