No. 3 in a series of 3....
When running an Opportunity report (by 'status' for example), the user is invited to include/exclude opportunites based on their status as 'open', 'closed/won', 'closed/lost' or 'inactive'.
Historically, the logic used to build this report where multiple statuses (statii?) were selected was sophisticated in terms of the way that the report generator dealt with the selected date range: When listing 'open' opportunities, the report included those where the'estimated close date' falls within the selected date range. Where 'closed' opportunities were also included, the report would reference the 'actual close date' rather than the 'estimated close date'. It was quite clever really.
In ACT! 2010, it seems that this cleverness has escaped: Whichever status is selected, the 'estimated close date' is always referenced rather than actual close date, thereby generating inaccurate reports.
Also quite annoying is the fact that the report does not not print/render the 'name/label' of the status: instead of displaying 'open', 'closed/won', 'closed/lost' or 'inactive', it displays 0,1,2 or 3!

How infuriating that this simple bug has still not been fixed in Service Pack 1. Opportunity reports by 'status', filtered by date range only ever focus on the estimated close date...
So, if you set the filters to include only Closed and Won Opportunities within (for example) the current month, you get a report that includes Opportunities with a status of 'Closed and Won' where the estimated close date was in the current month (but NOT where the actual close date is in the selected date range!)
You can't run a report in ACT! that lists what Opporunities have Closed and Won this month! How ridiculous is that?
One of our clients describes the predicament thus:
"Given that ACT is a piece of software to assist the sales process I’m guessing that 99% of its users (i.e. sales people/directors) want to produce a report at the end of a month or quarter in order to see the results achieved. This is all I want to do and so it must be a fairly standard request? I simply need to see at the end of a month what business has been won, which to me is the most obvious report the software could need to produce.
I hope you can understand the frustration from my end. I had a version that allowed me to do this for several years with no problems and since updating our software from ACT! 2009 to ACT! 2010 I have not been able to produce a useful sales report."
I share his pain!
