ACT! 2010 - Account Team Assignment

I'm looking for some guidance on Best Practice regarding an Account here's an example...


I want to assign an Account Team to both companies & opportunities - I can do this through Groups - the Account Team consists of various people from my company and my partner...I've tried just assigning these through contacts, however, if a contact is the same on two different accounts, the opportunities may not display correctly under the appropriate company.  For example, if John Smith is shown as a contact on 2 different companies, if I enter an opportunity for Company A & Company B, I see the Company B opportunity under Company A....


I was thinking that I would assign an Account Team in user-defined fields under a Company, however, there's no way to assign those fields to automatically populate when an opportunity is entered...


Any thoughts on the Account Team approach I'm taking?
