ACT! 2009 will not open

It use to work fine.  When I click the icon it says "The database Mydatabase2 could not be accessed. In order to access this dabase, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available.  It may be necessar to disable any firewall software on your computer or server."

I AM RUNNING A SINGLE INSTANCE ON A LOCAL MACHINE (PC) XP SP2 Pent. IV - not on a server or network.

I get the same message when I tgry to open ACT11Demo.  I never had any problems and my PC runs fine.

I go into RUN Actdiag and it says "COULD NOT CONNECT TO SQL SERVER INSTANCE."  This database use to open fine.  When I finally get into actdiag it looks almost blank except for a footer (SEE TEXT BELOW from actdiag)
