ACT! 2009 v 11: Mail Merge with Outlook - no images displayed or embedded - NO HTML POSSIBLE???

I am trying to create a newsletter with embedded images.  Using word, I have a link to file option to do that, but after merging from ACT, no images reach the email recipients.  Shouldn't ACT have capability to interact with html instead of relying on Microsoft Word?  Is there a way around this?  Newsletters with graphics are a pretty basic project need and my database contains 5000 recipients whom I would like to reach with something other than plain text.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

For the Graphics, maybe try this ACT! Knowledge Base article -

http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1836...

But, if you're going to send so many, Outlook will choke at about 100-150 at a time.

You need to look at using either MergeMaster! or SwiftPage

"Clear the Add properties to attachments to enable Reply with Changes option (as illustrated above), and then click OK.", step 5 doesn't exist in my version of Outlook 2007 for Vista, I had found the article prior.  Sending the number of emails didn't have any impact, I tried this with just a few and got the same result.  So... I still cannot successfully merge a single email with a Word document and mail it through outlook.  Guess I'll have to look at third party software.  Somewhat frustrating given how powerful ACT is.  Thanks for your reply.  If there's any other solution, I'd love to try.

Thanks, Mike.  This did bring me to an article that explained where to find Add properties to attachments to enable Reply with Change  in my version of Outlook and it was already unchecked there.

I'm currently looking at ta third party product, High Impact.  Looks like it's promising to do all that I need, i.e. send html newsletters from my database contact list.  So far the trial download doesn't recognize that ACT is even installed, hoping to get that to work today.

Still... a powerful program like ACT can't output to a simple html mailing, I'm stumped.

You might post a request for this feature to be considered for a future version here - http://www.act.com/community/feature

Input from this web page goes directly into a database that management has direct access to read, and which they also track and gather statistics on.

Re: ACT! 2009 v 11: Mail Merge with Outlook - no images displayed or embedded - NO HTML POSSIBLE???

I've determined this is a known issue with Sage Software.  They maintain that it's a problem with Outlook and have refused to fix the problem even in Act 2010.  To be clear, let me set the stage for the issue at hand.

Sending an image using the .adt will be seen by all parties on a distribution list EXCEPT those using locally resident versions of Microsoft Outlook.  The image comes across as a missing link (or a box with a red X in the top left corner).  These same users, if they have other ways of accessing their Exchange servers are able to see these images.  Examples of these instances are on a user's iPhone or using OWA (Outlook Web Access).  The frustrating issue is that should you check your "Sent Mail" items, you'll note that the image is fully viewable, suggesting you sent a valid Email.

Images also show up using other web based Email programs such as Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail.  But seeing as how 90% of the SECURE business population uses Outlook to view Email, a similar percentage of your distribution list will get the red X.  I guess as long as it works on other mediums, that's good enough for them.

Should you select the Email address of each individual and send an Email one at a time, you'll experience no problem.  It's only when you do a Mail Merge that you encounter a problem.  Hence its the Mail Merge interface itself that is the issue.  This is Sage's responsibility.

While Sage maintains that this is an Outlook issue, there are Add-on programs out there (capitalizing on Sage's lack of interest to complete its programming) which funtion perfectly.  Exploiting this error and sugar-coating it with templates that are useless for people who just wanted the functionality to be able to create their own template, they charge over $100 so that you can save half a day's work in sending individual Emails.

Fact is that if you wanted to do Email blasts to your contacts, either constrain your Email to text-only or spend $100+ for an add-on.

Thanks for the note but I have upgraded to ACT 2013 and indeed this issue has not been fixed.    It's such a shame.  Almost like they are forcing us to buy an email addon software - something I don't want to do right now, as there is really no one alternative that works well.   They are all pretty much dogs.    After all, I'm using Photoshop to design beautiful email blasts only to have them not show up for customers using Outlook.
