ACT 2009 deletes contact names

When I search a last name that has more than one contact associated with it (ie  Smith, Jones), ACT first gives me a list of all the contacts with the same last name.  Problem is:  many times, ACT will delete the first name in the group and if I don't recall who that person(s) was, I have no idea how to correct this.  This happens quite frequently where I'm looking into dumping the program.

This is my first time hearing about this issue.  Are you able to consistently reproduce the issue?  If so, what are the exact steps.  When you say it deletes the first name in the group, do you mean the current lookup?  If you go to the actual contact (Contact Detail view), is the first name in the Contact field?

If you have changed/changed customized the contact list view - try returning it to the default layout.  We have run into similar behavior on certain PCs when the contact list fields have been changed...
