ACT 2008 failure to install MSSQL$ACT7

I have failed to install act 2008 (10.0) on vista (ultimate 32bit).

The installation always fails on microsoft sql server 2005 setup - the sql server failed to start - configuring microsoft sql server - starting sql service: MSSQL$ACT7

Im left with a copy of act2008 that cant connect or open databases.

I have checked and no act7 instance gets installed

I have tried deletion of all act files with the act.uninstaller / deletion of all msql from the control panel / performed a selective restart with msconfig / manual install of act2008 all to no avail.

Does anybody have any ideas

Thanks

Hey Mike,

See if you can install SQL separately, using just the defaults.

On your CD, browse to the Dependencies folder and double click the SQLEXPR.EXE file.

Once the install starts, take all the defaults and see if the install is successfull.

That will give a better idea if it is just the ACT instance having issues, or if it is SQL in general.
