ACT!2006 and Windows 7 64-bit compatability

Hi,

I have been trying to install ACT!2006 (ACT!8) on my new PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) after I used to run it on XP with Service Pack 3. I am signed in as administrator, but still get get an incompatability message, despite running the compatability wizzarrd. I'd greatly appreciate any help so I don't have to fork out on a new ACT version (as the PC was expensive enough)!

ACT! 2006 used Microsoft SQL 2000 ... Microsoft never made that version able to run on Windows 7 (or Vista).

In fact, trying to install it on Windows 7 can cause issues. with the OS

The only options for you would be either to upgrade or to use VMware and XP ... I'd recommend the upgrade

Thanks Mike. Which subsequent versions of ACT will work with Windows 7 please? - I can't afford the latest edition.

And may I ask why you don't recommend downloading the VMware server as I see it's free?

Re vmware - you also need XP and you then can't connect to Office in your Win7 environment.

ACT! 2010 would be earliest for Win7 x64, but only Office 2007. If you also have Office 2010, then only choice is ACT! 2011

Thanks Mike. I am using Office 2003. Will ACT!10 work with that?

Another question Mike. I just read in a review of ACT!2011 that you can't import files from older versions, which I can't believe. I'd need to import various databases from ACT!2006. Would that work?

Yes, both versions will work with Office 2003
Yes, ACT! 2010/2011 will open and convert your ACT! 2006 databases

Have now bought ACT!2010 but it won't import the ACT!2006 databases I have saved fromold PC. Do you maybe know a link that can talk me through this process? Any help appreciated.

You don't "import" it. You just open it and it will convert it
