I am using Windows XP
I installed act 2011 pro.
I have re-indexed numerous times, but keep getting the same pop up message when trying to open my ACT 6 datase in ACT 2011.
It says, "The database cannot open because 1 or more files are missing. Re-index the database and open the database again."
I have rebooted, but keep getting this message everytime.
Am I missing a step or doing something wrong?
I clicked on HELP to see if there was any updates and says I already have the latest version.

Insure that act6 is not also running with your act2011 pro something version?

You should check this stuff below anyway.
Manually check for windows updates.
check your control panel /programs features - insure you have microsoft .net framework 4.5.....
Insure you have most current version of ACT!2011 Pro
Best way to check for ACT! updates is not from within the software.

If you version of act! does not read as follows;
Sage ACT! Pro 2011 Version 188.8.131.52, Hot Fix 6
Then goto ACT!website download center http://act.com/support/download-center/
The specific link you will need is
12/16/2011 Sage ACT! 2011 SP1 Hot Fix 6 ACT2011SP1HF6.exe
click the download button next to it and manually download/install it. FSB

You need to focus on getting the database open in ACT! 6. If it won't open there it won't convert. The files missing error message from the conversion is a clue. The ACT! 6 database included approximately 25 linked files.

I am about ready to pull out whatever hair I have left. I got my ACT6 file to open and no matter what I try it won't open in ACT 2011. I have done the Hot Fixes and everything else that's been suggested on ths thread ithout any luck. I am at a loss with what to do next as I really want to use the newer ACT version. I have spent many hours with this issue and have never had an issue like this with any other software. I need a solution so I can move forward. Thanks

One more tidbit. I created a test database in ACT6 and it opened perfectly in ACT 2011. Obviously, there is something wrong with my business database that ACT 2011 doesn't like.

That indicates there is damage to your business database so it needs to be repaired whether you were using it in ACT! 6 or converting to a later version of the ACT! program. There are some repairs to try in ACTdiag which may help. You can also check the ACT! knowledgebase for some field repairs which might help. You may need to contact and ACT Cettified Consultant about having a database repair done.
