I lose pad file when closing. Can't open adf file because it requires administrator although I am administrator and sole user. Win 7, 64 bit. I can restore from backup, but when I close I lose pad file. Of course I lose a little interim data each time I do this.

Try running the ACT! program using the 'Run As Administrator' option. To do this: close ACT! > right click on ACT! icon > select 'Run As Administrator'. Do this both attempting to open with the ADF and when using a PAD file.
If this resolves the issue, right click on the ACT! icon > select Properties > Compatibility tab > enable 'always run as administrator' option.
