ACT 11 - Database on network drive?

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have ACT 11 but we are trying to put the database on a network drive. We have an external network drive linked to our company network and we want to be able to place the database on here so that all staff with ACT can access the data.

We have tried all sort of methods but can't seem to get it sorted.

Please can someone advise

Thank you

If I understand correctly what you are referring to, the answer is you won't be able to. The ACT! program and the SQL server must be installed on the computer where the database is located. I believe what you are referring to is a data store without the ability to have programs installed.

Re: ACT 11 - Database on network drive?

We recently had ACT 6 on a network drive and converted to Version 10 and everything worked fine that our users could access it.  However, I had to create a new databse and had it done on my computer.  I copied it to the network drive and other users can't access it.  I can see it on the network but the others can't access it.  Is there a way to work around this b/c we all need access to this database.

Just move the db to a local share or mapped drive.

It is on a mapped drive and the users are still having trouble accessing it.  They are getting an error message.

Re: ACT 11 - Database on network drive?

Open ACT! on the network drive, delete the PAD file and open the database using the ADF file.

Just want to be clear...you delete the PAD file while ACT is open on the network drive?

Re: ACT 11 - Database on network drive?

I did what you suggested by deleting the PAD file but get the following message when I try to open the ADF file.

"ADF Files must be on a local device.  Files on mapped or shared drives connot be used."

Any other suggestions?

Re: ACT 11 - Database on network drive?

Roy - so you're saying that we must have ACT installed on same network drive where the database is too in order for the others in my sales group to access the database?
