ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

I recently converted from ACT!6 to v10.02 and also use Laser App 9 for client forms (fills in ACT client data).  When I access the Interface Utility in Laser App to map their fields to ACT fields, it only shows a limited amt of ACT fields, not all of my ACT fields are listed to map.  I was told by their Tech Support specialist that ACT only gave them access to one table: VRP_CONTACT.  So is it possible to modify VRP_CONTACT---add a few more fields I need to map OR if necessary remove fields I don't need for Laser App to make room/space for additional ACT fields??

Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!!

The information they are giving you is incorrect. All fields and all tables can be accessed via the SDK and all tables and all fields except activities can be accesses via OLEDB.

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

Hi,

I'm new to the SDK and I want to access all the fields in a contact entity, but I'm not sure how to do that !

I think I need to use the fields collection, but cannot find any information about the name of each fields.

Can you give me some advice ?

Thanks in advance

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

Thank you Roy, for your reply/info!

I kept receiving a field error when I tried to open another table (it kept looking for an unsed/blank field that I deleted in v10) so I converted the DB again and was now able to access Table1 via import/OLEDB.

What I don't understand is what determines which fields are included in VRP_CONTACT??  Is there a limit and if so what is it based on?  This is the main table LaserApp uses to populate forms.  In the interface window it only shows about 138 fields, majority of which are unusable or unnecessary for forms and represent a small percentage of my total ACT fields.  That's why I wanted to know if it was possible to modify this particular table and be able to add the fields I really need and remove the excess or unnecessary fields from this specific table.  I don't know anything about "SDK".

Thanks again for your patience and any suggestions...........it's very much appreciated.

Fields can be added to that particular table  in ACT! at Tools | Define Fields | Contact.

The additional fields you see in that table are mostly system fields used by the program though some of them provide useful information for reports.

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

Hi,

I'm very familiar with adding fields/cutomizing layouts and I have added many custom fields but it doesn't add them to this VRP_CONTACT table when I go to mapping them in LaserApp. It appears to add them to another table - Contact Table1.  Is it possible to move fields from Table1 to Contact?

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

That's an extension table. There is a maximum size for each table and when it is exceeded, a new table is appended to the database and linked to the original table. If LaserApp made their connection through the ACT! SDK, the extension would be transparent. It sounds like they used the OLEDB provider where they would appear a separate tables. There isn't any way to move fields from one table to another.

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

Thanks much for your response.  I guess I'll keep working with LaserApp to get all my data over.

Thanks again for your input!

Re: ACT 10 & Laser App 9--missing fields

Something I noticed as well. LaserApp will -not- read additional fields contained in Act for Financial Professionals. However, if you create a NEW field, it reads it just fine. Is there somethign in the backend that determines this or is it a shortcoming on LaserApp's side?

Thanks
