Trying to install Act 2010 Version 12.0.409.0 on a Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 laptop. Three attempts and hanging up toward the end of the SQL Server Setup when we get to VMI Registration, the last of 4 files. SQL Setup Support, Native Client and VSS Writer all get configured properly and that's as far as I get. Act installed just fine on my XP desktop 3 years or so ago.
I've uninstalled partial installations and all traces of Act related files before each attempt, disable anti-virus etc. No idea what the issue is but would appreciate some help.

I would recommend making sure you're logged in as a Windows Administrator, making sure that your computer name is not the same as your Windows user name, and attempting to manually configure the SQL Server instance. Sometimes manual configuration will allow the installation to go through without any hang-ups, and when it doesn't a lot of times it will give you an error message that doesn't always show up when trying to install along with Act!. The error message will give you a better idea as to why it's having trouble installing. The following Knowledgebase article will give you instructions on manually configuring the SQL Server instance:
