A couple of questions about ACT hosted (in the cloud)

So my company recently bought the hosted solution of ACT from sage and we are in the process of consildating our database for the first upload. I have been thinking of a few different things and have a couple of questions.

1.) Plugins - Can you install plugins in ACT hosted? Do they all work? Is there an extra cost (I know the plugin itself may cost money, I mean just to install it.)

2.)VOIP - Alot of voip providers have integrations with ACT that will monitor your incoming calls and pop up a contact when there is an incoming call, something like this: http://www.8x8.com/CommunicationsSolutions/ByProduct/VirtualOfficePro/Features/Actintegration.aspx. Would this kind of feature work on the hosted solution?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: A couple of questions about ACT hosted (in the cloud)

ACT Hosted is hosting of ACT through a third party vendor. They offer a limited scope ACT hosting solution consisting of ACT for Web  and in some cases ACT via synchronization.

You are not allowed to install plugins on the server itself, but if you have ACT synchronization, you should be able to use plugins locally through the ACT desktop client installed on your local machines.

Once you have that type of solution, and IF your phone vendor has an ACT specific plugin, you could integrate.  There are a few ACT Dialer plugins if you decided to go that route.

ACT also has a hosting provider program in which some of hte Hosting providers deliever the desktop version of ACT via a thin client. This type of solution would allow a totally cloud based solution which allows plugins.

We bought the cloud version directly from Sage, so we can install plugins to that for free?

Only if you have a sync database.  If that doesn't work you may want to call and ask them to transfer your account to a hosting provider.

Some hosts allow plugins ... but it also depends on if using Web or Remote Desktop - not all plugins work with the web version

I'm only aware of 1 or 2 that work with the web version.

Re: A couple of questions about ACT hosted (in the cloud)

Other than Handheld Contact (which technically isn't a plugin), I use some from CRMaddon, from Topline and some others.
