using lookups

using lookups

I have changed some of the fields to suit our needs but now lookups don't work for me.  How do I include new fields in the lookups.  I have searched help menus but nothing has worked.  Can anyone help?

What version of ACT! are you using? What fields do you want included?

We have version 6.  In the contacts I changed the ID Status to Contract Number.  I've renamed it and included it in the lookup menu but when I do a lookup it doesn't find any matches.
