I finally figured it out!!!
I went from Act 6.0 to Act 2011. ( I'm sure this will work if your converting to any version of act from act 6.0)
Click on the Sale/Opportunity tab at the bottom of the screen. Then navigate through your contact list until you see a contact that has an opportunity listed. In my Act, I clicked on the field that said Type then scrolled all the way down to the bottom and selected Edit List. Export that list into Word to count how long each Item is. Now go back to Act and modify any item that is longer than 64 characters by clicking Modify. You may have to do this for more than one field.
Then compack and repair the database using the Actdiag, open the database once more in act 6.0 so it can rebuild the indexes, then bring the database to your Act 2011 and convert away.
