User's / Administrator's Guide for Act! 6.0

I seem to remember having a "User's / Administrator's Guide for Act! 6.0" when I was deploying 6.0 at the company I worked for back in 2000, but cannot seem to find either the electronic or hard copy.

Can anyone help me obtain an electronic copy preferably?

Thanks!

Joe

From my time in tech support I do remember there being an administrators guide for ACT! 2 for Windows but I dont' remember anything like that for ACT! 3 or later. The information that you're referring to was part of the SDK documentation.

Re: User's / Administrator's Guide for Act! 6.0

Thanks for the prompt reply, Mike!

The User's Guide from the link you provided was very helpful, but the document I am thinking of had much more detail; for example, I remember it identifying the purpose or nature of each file type.

Thanks!

Re: User's / Administrator's Guide for Act! 6.0

Your advise is spot on except for (i) my preference for the functionality and precision Acrobat's Full Search feature, (ii) the speed and ease of a "local" source, (iii) the ability to "speed read" numerous "hits" using the mark-only attribute in Acrobat's redaction feature, and (iv) the ability to annotate the document by way of the Commenting feature in Acrobat.

If I cannot get my hands on a more comprehensive "Administrator's Guide" for Act! 6.0, a suitable alternative might be a PDF version of the KnowledgeBase for the ACT! 6.0 Family of Products (if such a thing even exists).

Further to my point... I have found that most proprietary search engines are too loose, e.g., I search for 'merge' and the proprietary search engine permits a match on 'merging'... If I wanted results with merge or merging, I would search for 'merge | merging', and sometimes I have found them to not be "full text"; e.g., HP's website is notorious for limiting/controlling search results based on the customer group to which you belong.  (Note:  The workaround for sites like HP's is to search hp.com via Google and find everything.

Again, I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me obtain a PDF copy of a more comprehensive "Administrator's Guide" for Act! 6.0 or a PDF copy of the ACT! 6.0 KnowledgeBase.

I can say with absolute authority that there was no free Administrators' Guide to ACT! 6.0.  Period.  I do know that Cornerstone Solutions, the best source of courseware and books on ACT!, used to sell an Administrators' Guide to ACT! version 6 and they still list it on their website at a very reasonable price: http://www.cornerstonesolutions.com/courseware.html

By the way, I had some and threw all my old v6 books out early this year.

The file you are looking for as others have said is the developers guide. The file structure is

.ADB Activity table

.ADX Index file for the Activity (.ADB) table

.BLB Binary Large Object Database (BLOB) file

.DBF Contact table

.DDB List table for the Sales (.SDB) table (in ACT! 5.0 or later databases)

.DDF Database definition file

.DDX Index file for the List (.DDB) table (in ACT! 5.0 or later databases)

.EDB E-mail table

.EDX Index file for the E-mail (.EDB) table

.GDB Group table

.GDX Index file for the Group (.GDB) table

.HDB Notes/History table

.HDX Index file for the Notes/History (.HDB) table

.LCK Record locking file for ACT! multi-user databases

.MDX Index file for the Contact (.DBF) table

.REL Relational table for ACT! tables

.REM Reminders file (in ACT! 5.0 or later databases)

.REX Index file for the Relational (.REL) table

.SDB Sales table (in ACT! 5.0 or later databases)

.SDX Index file for the Sales (.SDB) table (in ACT! 5.0 or later databases)

Hope this helps
