Re: Question on ACT! 2000

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your comprehensive reply and I understand where you're coming from.

In my defence I would refer you too my LinkedIn Profile with many recommendations, the most recent being:

Ian Holton Managing Director at Acutance Scientific Ltd

David has saved my sanity regarding ACT! CRM on a few occasions. For those like me who don't have an in-house ACT! administrator and expert, David can sort out problems remotely, quickly and efficiently by VPN. He seems to know all the quirks and fixes immediately (a real ACT! expert) and on top of that points out lots of labour-saving tricks en route to incorporate in daily practice, which are now saving me significant time every week.
I have no hesitation in recommending David's services - give him a go.

November 6, 2014, Ian was David's client

Note - I have never met Ian but helped him solely by remote support.

I wish you everything you could hope for with Act!

David

I have ACT! 2000 running on:

1. Windows 8.1 Home 64-bit

2. Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

It works great on both.  The only special setting was to use the ACT! Word Processor.  The first time I clicked on Write-Letter I got the following message:

"Failed to connect to word processor: ACT! Word Processor.  The Word Processor driver is not running."

To correct that I sent the ACT! 2000 icon to the desktop (create shortcut) then did the following:

1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon
2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program as an Administrator
3. Click OK

My ACT! 2000 CD has version 5.0.0.178 on it.  You can down and install the ACT! 2000 Update from the link below to update it to ACT! 2000 version 5.0.0.4.

Re: Question on ACT! 2000

Hi Fredrico,

ACT! 2000 will NOT install on Windows 10, nor run on it.  However, you can upgrade an existing installation of ACT! 2000 to ACT! 2004 / 6, and then install the latter on Windows 10 and copy your ACT! 6.x formatted databases to the Windows 10 installation.  I actually have ACT! 6.x installed and running under Windows 10 Pro without issues, and prior to that, had it installed and running under Windows 8 and 8.1 Pro.

Yes ACT! 2000 (5.0) runs great on Windows 10.  Do the following:

1. Go to the ACT folder on the CD

2. Click on setup.exe and let it run

3. Enter your serial number and you are good to go

The problem is the MENU (which is opened from setup in the root) won't run.

============

If you want to use the ACT! 2000 Word Processor in Windows 10 send the ACT! 2000 icon to the desktop (create shortcut) then do the following:

1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon

2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program as an Administrator

3. Click OK

or do this which also works:

1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon

2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program in Compatibility mode for:

3. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3) (both of them work)

4. Click OK

"The problem is the MENU (which is opened from setup in the root) won't run."  Actually, that's a VERY serious problem, and in fact, the issues are much deeper.  You are incorrect to suggest that ACT! 5.x runs on Windows 10....  It does NOT, and while you may think you have it working, at some point, you'll realize just how wrong that notion is...when you cannot use or access your data or the like.

Re: Question on ACT! 2000

If you want to run ACT! 2000 (5.0) on Windows 10 it is VERY simple.

1. Go to the ACT folder on the CD

2. Click on setup.exe and let it run

3. Enter your serial number and you are good to go

ACT! 2000 (5.0) runs fine on:

1. Windows 7 (Support til 2020)

2. Windows 8.X (Support til 2023)

3. Windows 10 (Support til 2025)

==========================

If you are running ACT! 2000 on Windows 10 and want to use the ACT! Word Processor send the ACT! 2000 icon to the desktop (create shortcut) then do the following:

1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon

2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program as an Administrator

3. Click OK

or do this which also works:

1. Right click the ACT! 2000 icon

2. Click Properties-Compatibility-Run this program in Compatibility mode for:

3. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3) (both of them work)

4. Click OK

Re: Question on ACT! 2000

Again, not true.  ACT! 6.x or later is required on any Windows version after XP.
