Importing Question

Is it possible to import a list of contacts and create the following (Act 6)

  1. Create a contact record from select data
  2. Create an activity for that same imported contact entry

Have a mailing list that I want to import into Act 6 and start "acting" upon it.

Re: Importing Question

No, you can import but there's no way to automatically create an activity.

ACT6... Roy's answered that Smiley Happy

Sage ACT! 2012, yup, use OakMerge! to import the contact's then from one .csv, then use OakMerge! again to import the activities (making sure you have a unique ID in both files).

Re: Importing Question

Ben, my read on this is that Frank isn't importing activities, he's only importing Contacts, but as part of the process, he wants ACT! to create a new activity for each imported contact.

Frank, ACT! can't do that in one step for you - it can't import AND schedule an activity on the fly - it's two steps - 1. Import the contacts, 2. Schedule an activity for every contact that you've just imported.

On ACT v6, once you've imported the contacts, you'll need to look them up, perhaps by create date = today.  Here's the KB article on how to schedule the activity to include everyone in the current lookup and check the box that says "Create separate activities for each contact"  http://bit.ly/L7lwyS  It will create a new activity for each contact - now, they'll all be at the same time on the same date, but you can then drag them around your calendar to spread out the calls, possibly over several days.

On versions newer that ACT! 6, before you schedule the activity, you'll need to set that option under Tools, Preferences, Calendar and Scheduling, Scheduling Preferences, check the box for "Create separate activities when scheduling multiple contacts."  Then select the newly imported contacts, schedule the activity and you'll have separate activities for each person.

Re: Importing Question

Actually, sounds like you really want to import to a Group so you can start acting on the records

Re: Importing Question

Is it possible to Import Act! files into an existing DB without over-writing those already there?
