I'm trying to access the notes/history data in our ACT database to do a regular report. My script opens the HDB file (read-only) and pulls out the data I need. However I need to know how the 'regarding' column maps to the BLB file so I can extract the text. The BLB file seems to be null padded in 128 byte blocks, so I assume the regarding column is an offset from the start of the file.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!

The BLB data is much too complex to make that worth-while.
The best options for reporting (when the ACT! reports don't go far enough) are either:

You're wise to take the advice given by others here. The BLB, as you've probably figured out, is a Binary Large Object, specifically, it's a doubly-linked list, and you would be writing all of the routines to traverse and retrieve the information. I remember a session 10+ years ago taught by one of the Symantec Support folks who walked us through manual browsing of the blb, with our hex calculators in hand. It was fun to understand how it worked, how to use the forward and back links, but I wouldn't want to have to work in that every day.
