Actually the index files were removed for any C&R in ACT! 6, both from the program and from ACTdiag. In my experience the missing index files error most often came from trying to open a bare DBF file. It also came up with a corrupt database where an attempt to do a C&R or repair from ACTdiag.

At this point what you need to do is go to ACTdiag and use the reset for Default - Last Database. Then try to start the ACT! program. It should open to the blank screen. If it doesn't then you have a conflict with another program (most often antivirus) or your ACT! install is damaged. If you try to reinstall the ACT! program and you're using Norton Antivirus, you will need to uninstall Norton first because Norton lockes the Symantic key in the Windows registry and it no longer recognizes ACT! 6 as a Symantic program
