Finding ACT2000 corrupted install serial?

Hello all,

I inherited a system where the company had been using ACT2000 from approximately August 1999 to 2002 from what I can tell.

The company migrated to keeping the contacts in an exchange public folder instead of ACT.

The company is looking to return to the newest version of ACT however I am attempting to recover the lost serial.

If I attempt to run act it states that it has not been properly installed or has been damaged (not terribly surprising considering the box is now running Windows Server 2008 R2).

In searching the community forums I have found a number of posts often from user: GLComputing linking to defunct SAGE knowledgebase articles.

Such as the following: https://community.act.com/t5/Act/SERIAL-NUMBER/td-p/11713

Is there any knowledgebase article still available for how to find ones serial from a registry key or any other method? I still see plenty of files associated with ACT from when it was running could it be extracted from any of those?

Thank you for your valuable time while on this wild goose chase,

Act! 5.0 (2000) keys were in these reg locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\ACT!\5.0\Registration Information
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\ACT!\Install

Act! 6.0 (2002 or 2004) were in these:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Symantec\ACT!\Registration Information
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\ACT!\Install

Re: Finding ACT2000 corrupted install serial?

The ACT! knowledge base is on the act.com web site and does include articles for that version of the ACT! program. ACT! 2000 originally didn't have a serial number. ACT! 6 and later displays the serial number in ACT! under Help | About ACT!. The error your getting often was associated with being unable to find the database or the database is damaged and can't be opened. The ACTDiag utility is able to reset the last or default database link and then ACT! may open to the main parent screen.
