Deleting Bulk Files

I have two thousand recdords with blank '"COMPANY" name field and want to delete them. Is there a way to do that in Act 6 without having to dfo it one record at a time? .

Re: Deleting Bulk Files

Create a lookup of the record you want to delete and then delete the lookup.

Re: Deleting Bulk Records

I want to make sure I have it right.

Do a look up by company name for all records equal to company and leave the space blank?

Then do a delete?

Will that do all the blank records or just the next one?

Re: Deleting Bulk Records

I will try it when I get to my office tomorrow and I will let you know if it works for me.

In the meantime, thanks for your quick response.

Re: Deleting Bulk Records

I worked for a Laudenslager back in the sixties. He was a great guy in my book. His name was Clare. Related?

Not that I know of, at least not directly. Several family members came over from Germany in the first half of the 1800s but didn't keep in touch after arriving in the USA.

Re: Deleting Bulk Records

I did what you recommended; but, couldn't get it to work.

.

I kept experimenting and stumbled into the solution. You might know of it. If not, you'll want to tell others.

I opened the desired file and clicked on Contact list. All of the records with an empty field for contact name were at the top.

I highlighted them and did a right click with my mouse which brings up a variety of options. My delete contact option doesn't do it.

 BUT...

There is an OMIT Contact option. I chose that and the unwanted records disappeared.

You got me going in the right direction.

The Loudenslagers I knew were all in Lansing, Michigan, and at Houghton Lake.

Clare Loudenslager was works manager for White Motors in Lansing.

Best regards, Pinky

Re: Deleting Bulk Records

Actually the easy way is to do Lookup | Company and then try leaving the value field empty or use <* (less than anything). That should give you lookup of all records where the company filed is blank. Then from the contact screen (not the list view) do Contact | Delete Contact and choose delete lookup.
