Cannot Open ACT Database

[ Edited ]

When the ACT db is opened, it is throwing this message.

An error occured while opening this database. It may be damaged, or missing a component. Do you want to try to restore the database?

The ACT is not running on Novel netware as it was mentioned in a knowledge base article.

However, for people already logged in the database, it is working fine.

It never had a problem like this for so many years of being used, just today it started occuring..

Any ideas

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

What version of ACT! are you using? That error message sounds like an error message for ACT! 6.

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

We are using ACT 6!

We have multiple ACT databases on a Network Share. More than 30-40 people login into the  same ACT databases.

It was working fine until today for so many years. Suddenly, we have this error popping up on users screen on few specific databases only.

1. We want to find what could have really caused this problem.

2. How can we fix this up now.

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

If everyone is using the same database, it could be a corrupted activity, that would be user specific. If they use separate databases then it's had to say what the problem is with out doing direct troubleshooting. I assume that you do regular database maintenance and you can try doing a compress and reindex and see if that helps. You could also go to Start | Run | type ACTDIAG and then click OK and do the scan and repair in the ACT! data diagnostic. If none of that works and you do regular backups of the database, you could restore a recent backup of the database. Another alternative would be to contact an ACT! Certified Consultant that does ACT! 6 database repair. We do ACT! 6 database repair at Techbenders.

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

Royel,

Thanks for the response. We are able to get this fixed and running. However, we are more interested to find why or how it really happened.

Can u explain what do u mean (and what could have caused the database corruption) by the below sentence u mentioned.

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

Royel,

You've come to the rescue it seems.

I posted a can't start ACT! 10 because of an "Object reference not set to an object" error. That's no a familiar ACT! error.

Could it be a Vista thing?

Please keep in mind that not opening ACT! is putting me so far in arrears.

Please Hellllpppp!!!

Re: Cannot Open ACT Database

Try opening the ACT! demo database, if it opens the problem is your database but if it gives the same error then the ACT! program has a problem or there is a conflict on the system.
