Well, I would usually attach incomming emails to the contact that wrote it.

 

There is no other option to see the sender, except by opening the email

For Sent items, the "from" would be the Record Manager field and the "to" would be the Contact it's attached to.

Thanks Mike - you are right re the Record Manager showing  who the author was of an outgoing email. However incoming emails can be from a multitude of different authors for any given contact (not just from the contact). Problem is identifying who sent an email without opening every email. Any other suggestions? Appreciate your input
