Act license & Performance

We have 22 computer having act version 6.0.3 installed, we have 11 licenses and every two computers share each license

does this license sharing have any effect on performance of act?

adding different license to each computer increase any performance ?

Does the 2009 or 2010 version allow to share a single license on two computer

Thanks & Regards

Re: Act license & Performance

Yes and no. ACT! 2010 isn't licensed to the machine but to the user. You would need one license for each named user.

Re: Act license & Performance

The intent of ACT! versions 5 & 6 was never to share 1 license across 2 computers,  The intent was that if you used WinFaxPro, it needed to log into your database on your behalf, and therefore ACT! versions 5 & 6 needed to (in a sense) let two people log in - thus the mis-interpretation that 1 license allowed 2 users to log in.

That loophole was closed in ACT! versions 7,8,9,10,11 and the new 12 - you need a license for each named user.  The second restriction on licenses is that you must activate each installation and each license only allows so many activations, similar to how Microsoft and others manage licenses.  The intent here is that if you install to a computer, and then you replace your computer, or your hard disk goes bad and you have to re-install your OS and applications, ACT! will allow you to proceed, but if you start installing several computers from a single license, you'll find you have to call in and explain why you're installing to more than one computer.

No, it doesnt effect performance, it's simply illegal to use the same license on two computers at the same time.

Yes. Current versions are licensed by username

Thanks & Regards

Re: Act license & Performance

we have around 22 computers and 40 users login in at different times to act (6.0.3 version), do i need to have 40 licenses for the 2010 version.

If you have 40 named users, yes.

Re: Act license & Performance

That's really bad, a per device license was better.  One license per machine

is there any option to make it per device license

Re: Act license & Performance

No. Actually ACT! 6 was licensed on a per user basis but the checking was done on an aggregate of log ins to the database, not on a named user basis like now. Technically you were in violation of the license agreement for ACT! 6 as you were using it.
