ACT 6, Outlook and XP e-mail problems

[ Edited ]

We are using ACT 6.0.3.979 across a network that is predominately Windows 2000 with Office 2000.

Recently one of the clients was retired and in its place the replacement pc was given XP and Office 2003.

On installation of ACT and after all updates were applied including the Office 2003 hotfix ACT e-mail just refused to work with Outlook. After researching the problems we removed Office and ACT and then re-installed ACT and Office 2000.

We also removed Norton from the client

Whenever ACT e-mail is launched it initialises Outlook but then hangs. The only way to shut e-mail is through Task Manager and then an error dialogue box becomes visible. It states: “The database is currently in use or locked by[user name]. Try again later”

I have completely uninstalled ACT twice and re-installed it; once before Office and once after Office.

Has anyone come across this problem before and found a solution?

Thanks

Peter

Just in case anyone else gets this issue, the way I solved it was:

1.      Double check AV is not installed

2.      Completely uninstall Act and Office including as many registry entries as I could find.

3.      Cold boot

4.      Install ACT and open

5.      Soft boot

6.      Apply upgrade patch 602

7.      Soft boot

8.      Apply upgrade patch 603

9.      Soft boot

10.  Install Office and patches in similar way

I'm still having a few other issues but at least ACT isn't hanging
