I am a long time user of ACT 6.03.979 and Windows XP for many many years and want to create a new database.
When I click File/New, "ACT! Database" is not in the list although everything else is there.
Any ideas why it's not showing up in the list?

To see if it is an issue with the current database - use the File > Close option to close the database but not the program. Once the database closes click on File > New and see if ACT! Database is present in the list.

Already tried that and still doesn't show up

are you logging in as an administrator?

Try going to ACTDIAG and do a reset of windows and toolbars. If that doesn't work do an uninstall and go to the ACT! folder in Program Files and delete any remaining field in the ACT! folder. Don't delete any of the folders. Then do a reinstall. Also make a safety backup of your database before you do any uninstall.
