Hi. We've been using ACT for small business for a long time. But recently, although we can open databases by double-clicking them, all file menu functions like "open" and "restore" cause the computer to crash all the way to automatic reboot. We've tried uninstalling ACT, running a disk scan, and doing a clean reinstall, but we keep getting the same thing. This is ACT 2000 with 5.04 update installed, and the computer is Windows XP Home Edition. Any ideas about what we can do would be appreciated, since we have years of experience using ACT 2000 and don't want to lose it.

I believe there were some issues with XP and following the installation of service pack 3 caused some issues with earlier versions of ACT!. Maybe it is time to upgrade?
Other than doing a manual removal of all of the ACT related files and registry settings I am not sure much else can be done without looking at the system directly to try and diagnose further what may be causng the problem.
You might speak with a local consultant who has some experience with earlier versions as Sage does not suppor this version any longer.
