want to restore my database from a thumbdrive...

I have a pc that I keep my main database on.  I backed it up onto a thumbdrive.  I want to then restore the database from my pc to my laptop.  Please tell me how to do that!  I am mostly self taught and illiterate when it comes to this stuff.

Re: want to restore my database from a thumbdrive...

Assuming you have SQL based ACT, and that this is an Actual ACT backup (created by File, Backup within ACT).  Copy the backup database to your laptop and restore using File, Restore, REstore As (the second option). You then will be prompted to give the database a new name and location.

However, it seems like you might want to use ACT on both machines, in this case the answer would be to set up synchronization between. In that case, you could take a copy home with you on your laptop and sync back to the main database when you get back to work.

There are seme KB articles on act.com as to the steps required or you may want to contact an ACT Certified Consultant.  As always if you have question, please contact me. I'd be happy to talk to you.  866 710 4228

Here are some pointers on setting up sync:

Like John, I do recommend getting an ACT! Consultant to help you set it up the first time
