sql or other database language to manipulate ACT data base

I know it heresey, but I need to manipulate a couple of user field in complex ways that ACT doesn't support.....

concatenating strings is one example.

In ACT 6 I was using Paradox (a very old application),  any suggestions for how to proceed in ACT 10 would be much appreciated

You can only do this via the SDK. There are a number of addons that might offer this functionality for you

Actually, doing it in ACT! 6.0 would corrupt the database indexes if you modified an indexed field externally.

What is SDK?     (In ACT 6 I was changing user fields which probably weren't indexed and never had a problem)

The SDK is the Software Development Kit and can be downloaded free from the ACT! web site.
