opening 2012 ACT! database in 2011 software

I am already using 2012 Premium, but want to help someone working in 2011 Premium.  Can I create a database for them using my 2012 software and then somehow convert it so that they can "restore" it in their 2011 version?  If so, what will be lost?  Should I bother customizing layouts, drop-down values, templates etc., or will they be lost in the transition?  Thanks for any help.

Databases created in one version of ACT! can only be opened in the same or later version

If regularly creating databases for users with earlier versions, but not needing to use them yourself... get a copy of VMWare and create a virtual machine for each version of ACT!
