I am attempting to launch a remote database and I get the error message "external component has thrown an exception." ACT! will not launch as a result.
I am using ACT! Premium 11, version 18.104.22.168. Hotfix 4
I have tried everything short of uninstalling ACT! and cutting a new remote. I did the whole actdiag thing, rebuild, etc.
Any ideas please? Thank you folks.

Did this remote ever open correctly?
Are you able to create and open a new database (file > new database)? If you are, it could be that the remote did not restore correctly.
If you are unable to get to the basic Act! screen to attempt to create a new database, locate the Act! Demo database (Search for *.pad) and double click on it. This is to test the installation of the program.
What operating system are you running?
