cant logon act database :act v10

cant logon act database :act v10

hi all
 
have act version 10.01
 
on vista premium 2006 machine
 
logged in administrator
 
used a trial before now got a serial number to register
 
error message : to finalise registration administrator needs to logon first
 
I am admin on the machine with uac turned off
 
and admin on act database as well
 
but still cant logon to act
 
please advise
 
also on act version 10 with a single license - is it possible to change the administrator on database ?.
 
under tools > manage users
 
if so how to do it ?.

To change the Administrator, you'd need to create a new admin, then login with the new account and disable the first one

sorry forgot to mention that
 
its running as administrator in xp compatiblilty mode
 
as well
 
and bulit in windows admin is enabled as well
 
but still cannot login
 
error : to finalise registration administrator needs to log on first
 
what else could be blocking it ?.

UAC off?
Are you sure you're loged in as Admin?
Maybe enabling the builtin Admin is preventing you from being an admin?
Are you sure that's the exact error?

If you still can't register and if (as I think your profile says) you're in Australia, you might call the local Sage guys to register you over the phone.

thanks for ur response
 
the product is already registered
 
I am logged in as administrator
 
in vista and also in database
 
the reason I enabled the built in admin is because I cannot logon due to" finalise error"
 
but i changed the admin while i was on trial verison - would that cause the problem
 
how to get back the admin rights if I messed up user access to manage - so when I logon back i cant go tools >
 
manage users -greyed out
 
so How to get back the lost admin rights ?.

The finalise error means that it thinks it's not registered and you need to be an admin to do it.
 
You can tell what level you are in the database by going Help | About | Database Information - look at the top area
 
If you're not an admin, you'll need to find a user who is and log in as that user.

i thinik the issue is with teh vista machine itself
 
I will look into it
 
but in general
 
how to get back the admin rights
 
if you have lost them
 
trying to change the user access with a single user license

If ACT! doesn't think you're a database admin, that would not be a Vista issue
 
The Help | About | Database Info will tell you what security level you are.
 
If you don't know an admin password, you could try http://www.elcomsoft.com/prs.html#actpr
 
The free version will give you the user names
