can't access ACT via OLEDB or ODBC- Act Data Link Error Invalid U and P

Hi,

I'm trying to access Premium ACT 2011  via OLEDB or ODBC so I can export notes and history, and I keep getting-  Act Data Link Error Invalid/Inactive Username and Password.

I've tried this with excel, magic DB and Open office Base, same results.

I've verified the username and password are right.

I rebooted the server to make sure noone else was in there while I tried it.

I went to ACTdiag on the server and it says Unlocked.

ANy ideas?

thanks

Are you able to connect to other databases? Is this database a local?

it's local as in on the same LAN, but I didn't try on the server itself (because in this forum, a helpful poster said the data extraction only works on a workstation)

i can connect successfully to a test db in the same server/shared folder, etc

thanks for the lightning quick response

I have experienced a problem with 2011 when connecting to ODBC and the user account I am using has a password, try removing the password or try another account that has no password.

You have attempted to set up OLE DB as per the prescribed method?

Have you tried other user logins?

Re: can't access ACT via OLEDB or ODBC- Act Data Link Error Invalid U and P

I have tried other logins, and I did follow the prescribed method.

Nothing worked until I restored a copy of the backup, called it something different in a different location on the server.  Then, all is good.

Any ideas why?

thanks again

Dunno...

Must be something was corrupted in the file.

Don't recall if you said or not in earlier portion of the thread, but had you made some changes in Define fields...

we have a ton of customized fields, is that what you mean?

so what should i do with the original DB - is there some danger there if there is corruption?

thanks
