can I backup to a NEW Act file or do I have to overwrite the one I have open?

I want to restore yesterday's backup.

WHen going thru the steps, it seems like I can only overwrite the DB I have open.  Is that true?

Re: can I backup to a NEW Act file or do I have to overwrite the one I have open?

Thanks - I saw that option finally.  I have lost all my companies when I look up by company name.  Don't know what the heck I did,.  I added a field to company layout and now I have no companies when I query.

I restore a file and the result is the same.  What the heck??

I did file maintenace - it re-indexed the file.  Could that cause it?  If so, then I would still have my 'old index' from the files I restored.
