I just bought a new computer with Windows 8. When I try to install Act Premium 2010 it tells me SQL Server 2005 is not compatible with Windows 2008. How do I get my Act working with Windows 8? Is there a work around?

My understanding is that ACT! 2012 won't be updated for Windows 8. ACT! 2013 will be compatible with Windows 8 once SP1 is released early next year.

ACT Premium 2012 should also be using SQL Server 2008 R2, not SQL 2005. Where are you getting SQL 2005 from?

Sorry all. I just realized I made a typo. I'm on Act 2010 which is SQL 2005. Sorry about that!

That makes a lot more sense!! I did wonder where 2012 was getting a SQL 2005 installer from.
I was going to say that I would still give 2012 a go, because I think it should probably still install on win8, but is definitely not supported. I haven't tested that yet myself, to verify. Its just a guess.
But I definitely wouldn't bother with ACT 2010, not only is SQL 2005 not supported for windows 8, you're likely using office 2010 which also isn't compatible with that version of ACT.
You will need to upgrade to Sage ACT 2013.

Thanks I'll try this. We would like to upgrade to 2013 but we have 5 computers so it is a bit of an investment. Hopefuly soon. Thanks again!

Hello bdc11,
Please note that ACT! 2010 will only connect to SQL 2008, not SQL 2008 R2. Here is a link to the MS download page for SQL Server 2008 Express:

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.
